Extremism and acts of targeted violence continue to impact our local communities and online violent propaganda has permeated social media. European nations have been stepping up security led counter measures to combat violent extremism. Yet, prevention and the “soft” aspects of counterterrorism must also be kept in mind. The concept of Countering Violent Extremism (CVE), in conjunction with peace and development policies, has developed as part of a modern approach to combatting this persistent threat.
