The UK government have produced draft regulations, code of practice and explanatory material to accompany the 2017 Digital Economy Acts Public Service Delivery chapter. This is to ensure departments and local authorities understand what safeguards are already in place and what they need to follow.

The National Audit Office releases an updated report on the reasons why NHS data were compromised by hackers through the WannaCry computer virus in May 2017. The investigation covers the period immediately before the attack and several months following.

The report highlights lessons learned from the incident including that relatively simple actions could have protected a number of computer systems and that response plans and communication plans should be put in place now to overcome the challenges faced by any future cyber breaches.

Involve, Understanding Patient Data and the Carnegie UK Trust publish a report on the findings of research conducted through workshops on the benefits and risks of sharing data in public and voluntary sectors (such as housing, criminal justice, and health).

The report presents a framework of principles for appropriate instances for data sharing in these sectors and poses questions for sector leaders to determine if data are being shared and protected sufficiently.
