Understanding the status of under-represented groups in the Information and Communication Technologies

The Employment Research Institute at Edinburgh Napier University releases a report on groups of people who face disproportionate difficulties pursuing careers in academic research in the ICT field. Under-represented groups in ICT include women, people with disabilities, ethnic minorities, older people and LGBTQ people.
Some of the barriers identified included long working hours, insufficient self-confidence, discrimination, and caring responsibilities. The report concludes with recommendations for higher education institutions to support all professionals to pursue a career in ICT.
This research report was commissioned by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and included a literature review, data analysis, an online survey, and interviews.
